With the first two tournaments of the season behind us, the tour wasted no time diving into back-to-back events—the prestigious ATP 500 Rio Open and the debut of our first-ever Challenger event, the Bengaluru Open.

For many, Rio was a chance to continue building momentum, while the Bengaluru Open gave new and rising players a platform to showcase their talent. With two trophies up for grabs, the past week delivered electrifying battles, thrilling comebacks, and dominant performances.

Rio Open – ATP 500

After a historic first ATP title in Doha, Niall Reid entered Rio looking to build on his success. But with a stacked field featuring Jalen Walker, Jesús Díaz, Jaison Chitimbe, and more, this tournament was no easy task.

First Round Action

With only eight quarterfinal spots available, the first round saw players battling for survival:

  • Anthony Henderson def. Manuel 6-2, 7-5
    Henderson opened his Rio campaign with a hard-fought win, edging out a close second set.
  • Cristian advanced via walkover over Uuo
    Cristian moved on without hitting a ball after his opponent withdrew.

    Reid stayed composed, controlling the match in a confident opening-round victory.
  • Jalen Walker def. Freddie 6-1, 6-4

  • Santi advanced via walkover over Lester
    Santi progressed as Lester was unable to compete.
  • Redouane advanced via lottery over Mike
    A rare lottery decision saw Redouane move into the quarterfinals.

    A grueling contest left Jesús battling cramps, but he fought back from a set down to claim the victory.

Bengaluru Open – The First-Ever Challenger Event

As the ATP players battled in Rio, the first-ever Bengaluru Open Challenger event gave a new group of players a chance to shine. The intensity was just as high, with a historic title on the line.

The Bengaluru Open kicked off with exciting matches:

  • Cordell def. Redouane 6-1, 6-0
  • Rondell def. Aston 6-2, 6-0
  • Dave def. Kishawn 6-1, 6-2

Quarterfinal Showdowns

  • Mikel def. Mike 6-1, 6-0
  • Rondell def. Lester 6-1, 6-7, 11-9
    This was an absolute thriller, with Rondell edging out a marathon third set.
  • Cristian def. Dave 6-2, 6-1
  • Rashawn advanced via walkover over Cordell

Semifinals

  • Mikel advanced via lottery over Rashawn
  • Rondell advanced via lottery over Cristian

  • Mikel def. Rondell 6-2, 6-2
    Mikel made history, becoming the first-ever Bengaluru Open Challenger Champion with a composed and aggressive performance.
